About DYJ

About DYJ

It takes someone with OCD an average of 7 years to get properly diagnosed and treated for OCD after their symptoms begin to show. Unfortunately, some go their whole lives before receiving the proper OCD diagnosis. This diagnosis delay is attributed to many things including lack of accessibility to OCD specialists, mental health professionals who are unfamiliar with different presentations of OCD, unintended misguidance and misunderstanding from support people including religious leaders, and inaccurate media portrayals of OCD. The longer an individual delays diagnosis, the worse the symptoms usually become. OCD, for many, deeply impacts day-to-day functioning.

Damn You James! A Podcast About OCD aims to provide helpful information about OCD in the format of short podcast episodes with the ultimate goal of positively impacting this delay in diagnosis. It is for sufferers of OCD and support people alike.

Meet Your Host

Hi, I'm Josh! And meet my OCD, James.

Personally I tried 8 therapists, 20+ different medications, and a plethora of alternative treatments including acupuncture and ketamine before I was properly diagnosed and treated. I was even briefly hospitalized. It took me 8 years to finally find the right kind of help.

This podcast aims to share some of what I've learned about OCD firsthand after years of suffering, 4 months in an intensive outpatient program, and a current position as an OCD therapist in training.

I hope this podcast is interactive. Please let me know if I can answer any questions or provide any direction.

There is hope for everyone with OCD.
